Friday Faves & Funny...

It's Friday! Hopefully by now, I'm smack in the middle of Canada. If not, well, soon to be or beyond, who knows?

When hubby called the Canadian border, the one thing they said to him that will make the process go more smoothly is don't be a smart ass. He may have to put duct tape over my mouth so we can get across.

Ha!

I'll try to behave. I won't sing, "Blame Canada" from the Southpark Movie. I'll limit my use of 'eh' at the end of my sentences and I certainly won't make fun of the Mounties by asking if they have seen Moose and Squirrel.

I also hope to have lots of pictures to share with all of you. It's going to be a super fun trip! Okay, on to the faves and funnies. What sort of mood am I in? Well, goofy. I have to say I'm loving both series of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel". I finished Buffy sometime back and I'm almost done with Angel on Netflix. I love when the show gets campy. If you've never seen either show, I'm sorry. If you're starting like me, well, spoiler alert. My favorite Angel episode so far has been where Angel gets turned into a puppet. Hilarious!

Joss Whedon, you da man when it comes to creating such awesome characters!

Okay, here's your funnies. Enjoy!

Ooooh that last one almost made me snort coffee through my nose... lol! All right, have a good weekend everyone!

On The Road...

By the time you read this, I'll most likely be well on my way to Washington. Our trip is going to take us on a quick stop to say goodbye to some friends who live in Wasilla. Then on to the Canadian border, where, hopefully, we won't have much trouble.

I've cataloged all our boxes, written down a basic description of what's inside. This will help when we get to our new home as well as make it easier on border people. I've researched their websites and hubby has called to find out certain details. I've found that as long as I do exactly what is asked or stated, things go much more smoothly. It's always when I think, "Eh, who cares, we'll just wing it," that everything goes wrong. So we have our passport cards, all our paperwork for our pets, vehicles and ourselves. We know where to pack questionable items.

Thanks for all your well wishes and just keep us in your thoughts and prayers for about a week. By then, we should be right where we were headed.

I look forward to this new adventure in my life. Sad I'm leaving so many good friends behind, sadder still at leaving my kids and grand baby. But they're out on their own now and they know we'll be there should they need us. I'll be back to visit. How could I stay away from this?

3 months old! And already loving her first book. What a cutie!

I shall see you all as soon as physically possible! Have a great rest of your week.

Beware, Political Content...

You know I try to avoid any sort of politics on this blog. Doesn't matter what it is, I try to steer clear for the sake of not losing all of my followers and getting truckloads of hate mail.

However, when it is something concerning the writing industry and the total disregard for humanity... well, I have to hop up on my soapbox.

First, let me share a link. This link will take you over to David Powers King's blog.

To summarize it, it states that a publishing company decided to cancel their contract with Mr. King and his co-author due to the fact that his co-author is homosexual.

First of all, I have a right to my opinion, so let's just make that perfectly clear. You also have the right to your opinion. The rules? Don't force your opinion on me, and I won't force mine on you.

I just want to state right here and now that I am all for equality in every way, shape, and form. Race doesn't bother me. Religious preferences don't bother me unless you are trying to force said preference down my throat, then we'll have issues. Sexual preference does not bother me. To each their own. You are a human being? An adult? You have the right to do what you want as long as you don't hurt anyone.

What bothers me most is (it seems to me) people get more agitated and upset about GBLT rights than anything else. We have rapists and child molesters in this world and you're concerned about the color your homosexual neighbor chose for his/her curtains? If you kept your nose out of his/her business, it wouldn't matter so much.

For anyone, especially a publishing company, to drop a contract like it had leprosy these days just takes us right back to the Middle Ages. It's like we've made absolutely no progress in our tolerance for things like this.

Human beings tend to feel as if they have every right in the world to bring up things from hundreds of years past and be entitled to special treatment. They also feel that hiding behind a religious book will make the "bad" things go away. The bible is supposed to be a guideline of how to live your life, be good and love your fellow man. Leave the judgements to God. Nowhere in the bible does it state that you shall make the final judgement over someone else's soul.

I certainly hope this company is ready for the backlash it is about to receive. There are those in the LDS community who support the LGBT rights as much as anyone else. Why should they (the publishing company) speak for the community when they're being the narrow-minded simpletons? I betcha it's only one person over there with a problem. I could be wrong, but you never know. "I own the company, do as I say or be fired!" Pssh. Please. People let money rule far too much, especially in politics.

What are your thoughts about this blog post? You can disagree with me, that's why it's called a discussion. I know some of you will opt out. I may lose a follower or two, but when it comes down to it, at least you know where I stand. Anne could not have said it better:

Friday Faves...

It's Friday! Oooh ooh! The weekend has arrived and so have the Friday Faves.

I just finished reading the last book, so far, in the Game of Thrones series. Now, I get to wait anxiously with the rest of the world for the rest. There's a video below you might find amusing if you are a fan.

While I have been reading the books, I've been watching the show. I got the DVD's through Netflix to catch up and now have to wait for the rest of those as well, since I killed my cable.

I'm not much of a fan of the swearing and soft porn. The bloodshed and gore doesn't bother me. Hello. Horror movie buff. But the rest of it does. It detracts from the story, in my opinion, but in the same, weird sense, it is a part of the story. Human beings back in the Middle Ages were just as uncouth, undisciplined, and unsanitary. Go figure.

I've also been making my way through the T. V. series, Angel, on Netflix. Almost done with that. But I have a deep love for both Angel and Buffy. Joss Whedon, where ever you are, I love you, man. Thanks for writing such deep, troubled and sarcastically funny characters. I bow to the master.

All right, here is that video I promised, and of course, your funnies. Have a super weekend!

Okay, okay and here are your funnies, Game of Thrones style:

When It Rains...

It just keeps coming down! Gah. It has been physically raining at my house in Alaska the past few days.

It has been "raining" in my life for about a week now.

Meh, I hate complaining on here, but it just seems to be one thing after another with the move. I know it's going to happen, don't get me wrong, but just like everything else in my life it's going to be an uphill battle. Little things. Minute details. Hurry-up-and-wait things. Goals not met for a myriad of reasons.

It's just frustrating. But, once it is all over, I'll be happy and it won't seem like such a big deal.

I'll be scheduling some posts from here on out. I've missed a few, but I've been busy. Trying to keep my stress levels down for the most part. Blood pressure is still high and it doesn't help the fluid on my brain. I was down a couple days when my BP spiked. Felt like I had been hit by a Mack truck. But that's what happens, so I try my best to prevent a spike.

Most of the time it just looks like me sitting here at the computer playing games. But it's really me focusing on something other than what is stressing me out. Doesn't help much at night, though, when I can't sleep. I just keep doing something until I drop into bed, exhausted. I have survived much worse.

So just keep an eye out for some posts. Nothing major or overly spectacular. But something to keep things going. My responses will be few and far between and we'll get caught up once I'm back online.

Have a great rest of the week, everyone!

Almost Missed It...

Hey all! Crazy days in my neck of the woods.

I totally flaked on Friday. Did not have any funnies prepared to share. Packing/preparing to leave is going well for the most part. Now it's paying attention to all those little details.

We had our going away party on Saturday for our friends, simply because these last two weeks will be a bit stressful and hectic. We have furniture going to my daughter and her fiancee, which will be this weekend. Then helping my son to move, a few days later. Then last, but not least, we leave August 24th.

I am hoping to have some scheduled posts. We plan to be on the road about 5 days. We're not exactly sure just yet. But plan on me not responding/posting for a couple of weeks while we get all situated.

I'm going to miss you all!! Even though it won't be that long, I know.

Also, apologies for not making the blogging rounds. I have no idea what's going on these days. That's all right. I know you'd all catch me up rather quickly.

Have a great week and since I missed out on Friday, here is a couple of funnies to help get over Monday:

Swag Or No Swag...

So most of you are writers, and some of you are readers. A lot of you are both, so hopefully we'll get some good feedback from this particular discussion.

People new to the writing world are being asked to give away some 'swag' (swag being cute little promotional items such as bookmarks, keychains, etc.) with their book promotions/launches. As a person who collects far too much junk (crap), I often don't want the swag. There are some people out there who don't like collecting things like this, but there are some who do.

Personally, I don't mind getting a small business card or even bookmark that I can keep in my wallet in my purse. I have a tendency to get a bit overwhelmed in bookstores. (OOoooooh the smell of BOOKS!!!) So when I'm trying to recall an author's name I've recently read to check for any more books, I get a little irritated. So. Business card would be GREAT in this instance. Just keep it on my person and voila! I can find more books with ease.

But there are people out there who love the little bits of swag that comes with book promotions/launches. When you are debating the Swag or No Swag question, you can't really take your personal feelings about Swag (crap) into consideration. There are readers who WANT that stuff. But what do you do when you have little or no promotional budget?

There are a couple places to get up to 250 free business cards, but you have to pay the minimal shipping fee. There is also Cafe Press and Zazzle. You can create stuff your readers might like to buy, once they become a fan. But bookmarks are always a winner. Keychains, you could design some on those above mentioned websites and then order some if you have the funds. They tend to be a little pricey, though, so beware. But you can keep a storefront open and maybe make a little bit of money from your book stuff to fund your book promotion budget.

So what are your thoughts on Swag? Yes, no or could care less either way? Do you like getting cute little things to remember this new author by or do you not want the crap cluttering up your house?

Friday Faves & Funnies...

It's Friday and while you are all perusing the web and laughing over my silly funnies, I'll be outside working my yard sale. Hopefully it will go smoothly. There is a new home being constructed right next door and sadly, they're using our driveway for their vehicles. I mean, they really pushed the property lines on this one. I have a bad feeling it is going to hinder my success with the sale, at least on Friday. Saturday may be better, less people blocking my drive.

Anyway, on to the Friday post.

So faves this week is going to revolve around some music. I've decided my faves is going to be a bit random. I'm running out of authors and stuff to use, so whatever piques my interest will be the Fave of the Week.

I hooked my son on Flogging Molly way back when and he took it a step further. Even found some bands I had never heard of. So I've found some wonderful favorites to add to my collection of Flogging Molly and The Pogues. Rumjacks, Chieftains, and Dropkick Murphys. I've actually heard of Dropkick Murphys, but up until my son moved up here with me, never listened to them much. So there you have it. And I'll even leave you a link to a cool music video.

Now! On to the funnies!

Haha! Pirates. Gotta love 'em. Have a great weekend everyone!
