'A' is for...

So, the month of April's challenge is blogging from A-Z and today begins with the letter A.

For those of you who know a little something about me, I live in Alaska. I. Have an awesome view. Every. Day. Don't believe me? I will show you.

So Alaska. No, I can't wave to Russia from my back porch. I don't know Sarah Palin. I do not own pet penguins. (I wish! How cool would that be?) Polar bears do not drink my Coca-Cola. I certainly

do not participate in the Iditarod. Kudos to those who do!

I've lived here for 4 years. Alaska, to me, is a whole different world, bub. Seriously. We work all winter so we can play all summer. We fish, we hike, we … uh … clam dig. Type. Stuff. Yes. The beach is my home away from home in the summer. We have seasons! (Unlike when I lived in Arizona. Hey! Another 'A'!)

This winter proved to be a little challenging for my family. I mean, dude! I used a sled to bring my groceries from my mini-van to the house! Erm. Long driveway. With a hill. Need I say more? Half the time I had to have my van pushed up the hill to get out, so I parked it up top.

I so need to invest in a snow blower. (Insert heavy sigh here.)

However, I would not trade living here for anywhere else. If anything, I will become a dreaded “Snow Bird”. ::Shudders:: Oh. And Sesame Street? Yeah, it is about halfway to Soldotna. Told you I knew where it was! And this concludes my blog for the letter A. For Alaska. :D

Wow. Alaska has always intrigued me. Would love to visit one day. Oh and Sesame Street! My favourite childhood show. 'Oh rubber duckie ...'

I would love to visit Alaska. I've read the book 'Alaska' by James Michener at least four times. lol. However, I get enough snow and cold here in the Chicago area--I do not need it another three months of the year! Although that view is way better than what I have. lol

This was so much fun to read. And I'm feeling crummy today, so it was perfect :) Yay.

Who doesn't Alaska!! What an amazing view! You used a sled to bring in your groceries?! That freakin' rocks!!! How cool is that?!

I wouldn't want snow that long though, I lived in Des Moines, IA until just a few years ago and I don't miss that snow, so Alaska would be a lot!!

Thanks everyone for your comments! Yep, it seems like a different world up here sometimes.
This winter is hanging on a bit longer than I would like. This is the first year in a new place. We moved in back in August. Prior to that we lived in town, now we're like 11 miles out.
That's why it was such a challenge this year, but the view from my window!
That pic was taken at the beach. But I see the same mountains and glaciers from my house, different angle. I couldn't find the pic I took though, so I will dig it up.
Again, thanks and good luck to you all in the challenge as well!

Alaska is on my short list of places that I want to visit some day. I think I'll come in summer! :) On the other hand if you're pulling the groceries uphill on a sled you probably don't have to waste time and money on a gym! :)

Summer is the best time. June, July or August. May seems to still be too cold for some people. However, we hit 60 degrees and we're fanning ourselves, mopping sweat off our faces and the tourists are freezing. :D
And no, I get lots of exercise doing normal stuff. Yoga helps though. Hehe!

Hello there
Just catching up on some of the A-Z posts - Alaska - we are coming again in August - I realise its not the real Alaska - its cruise ship Alaska - but its still very different to where I live. Visited 4 years ago and wanted to come again.
Take care
Cathy
