Level Up! Blogfest...
Yeah, I totally had to get in on this blogfest! Games. Games! GAMES! I'm a gamer chick, geek, nerd, noob, you name it.
This blogfest is hosted by our fabulous pals, Jamie over at Mithril Wisdom and Allison at Geek Banter. I love these two and can't think of two better geeks to host a blogfest like this.
So the rules of this blogfest: talk about a game you play or used to play; tell us how it works and share your love of the game with the rest of us. It can be any kind of game you like, from World of Warcraft to Hopscotch, from Monopoly to Blackjack and everything else in between. Tell us what you love about that game.
This would be a perfect opportunity to truly let my geek show (Gasp!) and go on and on about all the video games I play, but I have to choose one.
If that is the case, then I choose World of Warcraft. I can't help it. My love of this game comes from lots of different things. One, the ease of play. Two, the fact that I know this game and this world better than my own. (Sad, I know.) Three, the fact that I still have yet to 'beat' the game. (Don't judge! I have my reasons why I still play "Wrath of the Lich King".)
I've heard all the hype about this game. All the people talking about how you can play an "evil" persona. How it promotes Devil Worship.
All I have to say to this is: Bullsh-
Sorry. I could get into a huge discussion about this but I won't. I call BS simply because it is just a game. The people who take it too far make that choice and it isn't the game's fault. It is the fault of that person.
But I love World of Warcraft. It's the best way for me to connect with my friends in other states. We log into WoW, run around, talk on Teamspeak like we're sitting in the next room. If they could pass me a bottle of Mt. Dew while we gamed, well, that would just be the icing on the cake.
I love games in general. It began with board games and card games while I was a kid. Growing up we had everyone over almost every weekend to play some sort of game. Everything from card games to Yahtzee, Monolpoly, Trivial Pursuit. My brother and I would play Risk or Master Mind. Even Simon. Even now I still play games with friends and family. It is that fun connection. Of forgetting all your worries for a few hours, spending some time with quality people and sitting around chatting. That is what I love about ALL games. World of Warcraft just seems to be my choice du jour at the moment. Once I get bored, I find something else.
What about you? What's your favorite game and how do you play? What's the best thing about getting together and playing a game?

I chose WoW as my favorite too. There's just so much to love about it and don't feel bad if you're hooked...you're not alone :)
I've never played, but I want to! It sounds so fun!
I never believed that about Dungeons and Dragons, either! Nothing evil about it - I learned a lot of positive, moral things from the game.
I hear my son connect with people when he plays xbox live all the time. He says it's one of the best parts of the game. These video games are quite the thing, though I've never gotten into too many of them myself.
I've never played WoW because I'm afraid that as soon as I started, I wouldn't be able to stop and I would get absolutely nothing else done ever.
I love playing board games with my family. We're wild and crazy and loud and occasionally obnoxious, but I wouldn't trade those memories for anything.
Two of the guys at work are big WoW fans, and I know that if I play it I'll never stop (I played the demo for four hours and didn't realise that so much time had gone by).
Resist thought I might, I know that once Elder Scrolls Online is released I'm gonna sink into that MMORPG hole...
THanks for being a part of the blogfest, Mel!

I'll be making my way around to all of you. Thanks for the comments! Anyone interested in WoW... well, I have tips for that, too. XD
I never got into WoW, cause I knew it would suck me in if I did... They said that about D&D and Harry Potter too. Silly. Thanks for joining in the blogfest, Mel!!

Flavor of this month is Gauntlet of Fools. It's a card/dice/token game Where everyone starts with a hero and a weapon (randomly paired up at the beginning and bid on by the players) and you go through a deck of monsters killing and looting until everyone's dead. Whoever died with the most loot, wins!
It plays quick and it's really fun. 2-5 players and about half an hour a game.
Just dropping in from the Level Up Bloghop. I remember playing the original Warcraft games and being totally enamoured. But when WoW came out it was roughly around the time I started Uni and couldn't commit the time. Some days I'm sorry for it because from what I've seen I could totally have gotten into it. :3
I never played WoW. Spend too much time on other games.
World of Warcraft looks like a fun game and in some ways I regret not playing but I'm more of a solitary gamer. It isn't that I couldn't take the time to play with a group but after a time of multiplayer gaming early on in I decided I wanted to spend my time differently. I do like single player versions of RPG's though and so can easily identify with why gamers would love games like WoW. And I hope they keep making games like that because I think they are a fun and imaginative way to immerse ones self in story. What could be better?
Game-addict and partner is too. We met playing Perfect World. Since we met in person we got married and have now tried various games including WoW. Spent a long time in Lord of the Rings Online, as it was amazing to be in Middle Earth - Tolkien is No 1 author & has been since late 70s.
Now playing Star Wars: The Old Republic. Gaming is a second chance to live in another world when life is tough being disabled, plus a chance to beat the odds.
Current novel/WIP is a cyber-crime against MMORPGs
Games are a great way to just relax, have fun, and enjoy the moment with friends. Great post!
I think things like boardgames are totally gateway games to the harder stuff ;-) But fantastic choice with World of Warcraft - the social environment and the ability to connect with people anywhere is a big bonus.
