There are lots of weapons to think about in fantasy. You usually want to stay with your more real life medieval weapons. Granted, there are lots you can make up yourself, but with such a huge array of battle gear, I dunno...
However, the only way I can really explain some of these weapons to you is through pictures. Yeah, baby!
You have your halberd and naginata (Can I just say I LOVE me some naginata!):
Halberd |
You have your usual swords, which you know what they look like, right? Dirks, daggers, shields, bows, crossbows and axes.
Trebuchets:
Catapaults:
Ballista:
And of course, don't forget your standard berserker:
Pretty much self explanatory. But you have all sorts of things to choose from. Of course, there are lots of options and you can always mix up some usual weapons and create your own. And since it is a 'W' post, I'll even throw in:
And you can't EVER show a whip without having Devo's "Whip It" playing in your head.

Or thinking of Indiana Jones!
I have a closet full of swords and daggers, but I really want a double bladed battle axe. Or a nice crossbow.
And the first thing I thought of when I saw the whip was Devo.
Hey Mel,
How did you get those photos from my recreation room? LOL
Whip it good, indeed! Now where did I leave my designer chain....
Enjoy your weekend, Mel.
Gary :)
I love the Berserker.
"If neither of these work it is probably a tree" ahahaha
@ Alex ~ VERY true, I forgot about that. ;)
@ M. J. ~ I have swords and axes hanging up in my house along with some boarding axes. I have some old replica pistols from the 1700's (approx.)... yeah, I have an armory. xD
@ Gary ~ Ha! We must have the same recreational room.... lol!
@ Jai ~ Yeah, I had to use that pic, it was just too funny to pass up.
:) I saw a show on Trebuchets not long ago. Did you know that pumpkins fly further than computer screens? And shopping carts are definitely the ammunition you wouldn't have wanted to use. They don't fly well at all. (Strange the things we pick up ;))
Yes, the whip makes me think of Indiana Jones! I've never seen a ballista before. Yay for a new weapon. I like the naginata and the halberd. I'd like one for home invaders. ;)

I love the halberds. They look so cool.
Yeah, I love obscure medieval weapons. One that usually comes to mind is the shikomizue; a Japanese walking stick with a hidden sword blade!
And yeah, the caption on the Berserker picture was hella funny. Thanks for sharing!
Oh, I'm doing A-Z as well, drop by at http://kelworthfiles.wordpress.com/
Gotta love a trebuchet - good for all kinds of warfare; seige (throw stones), chemical (throw carcasses and waste), psyhological (throw heads of captured enemies). It's the versitile weapon!
